PolyChem Founding Rationale
In the past years, polymer chemistry studies have undergone a remarkable transformation, from the synthesis of simple macromolecules to the design of sophisticated, multifunctional, and sustainable polymer systems. Currently, polymer chemistry lies at the crossroads of chemistry, materials science, biology, and engineering, driving innovation across diverse fields. Precision polymerization techniques, dynamic covalent chemistry, and supramolecular strategies now allow chemists to control molecular architecture with unprecedented accuracy. These developments have enabled polymers that are responsive, adaptive, and bioactive, extending their roles far beyond traditional plastics into applications in biomedicine, energy conversion, soft electronics, and environmental protection.
While polymer chemistry has matured into a cornerstone of modern materials science, the rapid expansion of interdisciplinary and sustainability and AI-driven studies has created a clear need for a new platform that reflects today’s broader, more integrated vision of the field. It is highly necessary to build a new journal like PolyChem, in order to provide interdisciplinary, chemistry-focused venue where researchers can connect fundamental polymer chemical design with emerging technologies in biomedicine, green chemistry, energy systems, and digital materials discovery.
PolyChem emerges as a new platform can showcase the most creative and impactful advances in polymer chemistry. The journal is helpful to connect fundamental molecular design with real-world application, promote interdisciplinary collaboration, and inspire innovative approaches toward a sustainable and intelligent materials future.
QUST is well known in China for its strong research and education programs in polymer chemistry, materials science, and chemical engineering. The establishment of PolyChem by QUST is driven by the rapid evolution of polymer science and the increasing demand for a dedicated platform that can disseminate innovative research across the full spectrum of polymer chemistry. As a university with a long-standing academic tradition and strong disciplinary strength in polymer materials and chemical engineering, QUST recognizes the strategic importance of creating a high-impact journal that reflects its leadership in this field, and will continuously support the development of PolyChem financially.
